The Lord is bringing the world to North East Philadelphia, where immigrants of many different nations are relocating. God has called us to show special care for "the stranger" among us, and to love him as we love ourselves (Lev. 19:34), believing that by loving him, we are loving Jesus Himself (Matt. 25:38-40)!
New Life Dresher, a suburban church 40 minutes from this immigrant population, is partnering with Northeast Community Church, to reach these immigrants, by supplying ESL teachers, childcare workers, homework help for immigrant children, citizenship classes, humanitarian aid, and building repair.
As New Life Dresher Missions Coordinator, it is my privilege and joy to mobilize our suburbanites into urban ministry, taking them along with me as I teach English and befriend these "strangers" from all over the world. Having been an "alien" for 15 years, 1 year in Poland under Communism and 14 in Moscow, Russia, I know how difficult it is to learn another language, the culture, and the systems of a new country in order to survive!
I love being able to come alongside those navigating their new lives in America, to help them adjust, but also to offer the amazing news of the Gospel - that God through Jesus has made His enemies His friends and brought them into His family! May His name be great among the nations!
